Albany Firebirds Announce First Five Player Signings for Upcoming Season

The Albany Firebirds are pleased to announce the signing of five players for the upcoming season as we prepare to compete in Arena Football One (AF1) starting in spring 2025. These signings represent a key step in building a strong roster for the season ahead.

1. Jonathon MacCollister (Re-Signed) – Defensive Line

Jonathon MacCollister returns to the Firebirds after playing in Albany last season. A product of UCF and Notre Dame, MacCollister has become a reliable force on the defensive line. Known for his ability to disrupt offensive plays and lead by example, his presence on the field is a key asset for the team. Fans can expect MacCollister to continue making a major impact on defense this season.

2. Jamall Hickbottom (Re-Signed) – Defensive Line

Jamall Hickbottom, who also played in Albany last season, is back for another year to reinforce the defensive line. A former standout at the University of South Alabama, Hickbottom has developed a reputation for applying constant pressure on opposing quarterbacks. His return strengthens the defensive unit, and his experience will be critical as the Firebirds prepare for AF1 competition.

3. Savion Williams (New) – Defensive Line

The Firebirds welcome Savion Williams, a new addition to the team. Williams last played for the Pittsburgh Maulers in the United States Football League and completed his college career at Florida A&M, after a season in the Southeastern Conference with Tennessee. With his combination of athleticism and versatility, Williams is expected to make an immediate impact on the defensive front this season.

4. Trevon Shorts (Re-Signed) – Linebacker

Trevon Shorts, a fan favorite and key linebacker, has been with Albany since 2021 and played last season, winning two championships with the team. Known for his leadership and exceptional tackling skills, Shorts remains one of the most reliable players on the defense. His return solidifies the team’s linebacker corps as we prepare for another competitive season. 5. DJ Walden (Re-Signed) – Linebacker

DJ Walden will rejoin the Firebirds after playing in Albany last season. A former college player at Shorter University, Walden is known for his ability to read offenses and make crucial stops. His consistent performance on the field, coupled with his leadership, makes him a key part of the team’s defensive strategy as we enter the 2025 season.
